CCS Fellow 2014-15: Sophie Yanow

Sophie Yanow was born north of San Francisco. In 2011 she moved to Montreal, and with Colosse collective published In Situ, her acclaimed autobiographical comics series. She was an invited artist-researcher for the Canadian Center for Architecture’s “C for Condo” workshop, and participated in projects such as the the 48 Heures de la Bande Dessinée, the strike related online Manif de Bonhommes, and La Hausse en Question strike zine. Nicole Georges: CCS Fellow 2013-2014

For she’s a jolly good Fellow! Joining us in WRJ next semester is Portland, Oregon zinester, illustrator, and pet portrait artist Nicole Georges.

Nicole has been publishing her own zines and autobiographical comics for over fourteen years, the most recent of which Invincible Summer, has been collected into an anthology and released as two volumes (from Tugboat Press and Microcosm Publishing).

Ms. Georges has toured the country with Sister Spit, The Next Generation, and was voted “Miss Specs Appeal 2006” by the zine Hey Four Eyes! In her spare time, Nicole teaches Self Publishing and Autobiographical Comic workshops to children and seniors independently and through Young Audiences.

Nicole latest graphic novel, Calling Dr. Laura, was released January 2013 by Mariner Books.

Julie Delporte’s Journal will be published this Spring by Koyama Press! Journal will feature Julie’s sublime diary comics created between early 2011 and late 2012. 2012-13 Cartoon Studies Fellow: Connor Willumsen

The Center for Cartoon Studies is pleased to announce Connor Willumsen as the school’s next fellow. Connor Willumsen is a cartoonist from Alberta, Canada. After attending school in Canada and briefly in the USA, he has been living and working in Montreal for the last few years. Connor has spent most of this time publishing small books and strips both in print and for the internet, in addition to other sorts of visual arts. CCS Fellow: Julie Delporte

CCS Fellow Julie Delporte is a Francophone cartoonist and bookseller from Montreal, Canada with a Masters degree on the intersection of blogging and autobiography. She co-organizes Montreal’s annual “48 Heures” comics festival and newsprint anthology, runs and co-hosts the comics-centric radio show “Dans ta Bulle” (“In Your Bubble”) on CHOQ.FM, and has been published by L’employé du Moi and Colossus.

CCS Fellow: Blaise Larmee

CCS Fellow Blaise Larmee was born in New York, raised in Chicago, and was first published in the Colorado Springs Independent in 2006 while he was attending Colorado College. Larmee won a Xeric grant in 2009 for his debut album, Young Lions, and was subsequently nominated for a “Promising New Talent” Ignatz Award.
