New Book: Flash Forward

The podcast Flash Forward (Abrams), where Rose Eveleth tackles speculative fact and fiction, is being laid to paper with the aid of a crew of artists, including The Center for Cartoon Studies (CCS) alum Sophie Goldstein ’13, Amelia Onorato ’12, and many CCS visiting artists including Matt Lubchanksy, Ben Passmore, John Jennings, Sophia Foster-Dimino, and Box Brown. The collection includes many more contributors including Ziyed Ayoub, Maki Naro, Julia Gfrörer, Chris Jones, Blue Delliquanti, Zach Weinersmith, and Kate Sheridan. The book will be available on April 20, 2021!

Top Two at the Schulz Library

2017 top two books checked out from the Schulz LibraryIn the last 12 months, two books are sitting at the top of the heap at the Schulz Library as the most checked out: Kevin Czap’s Futchi Perf (Czap Books, 2017) and  Sophia Foster-Dimino’s Sex Fantasy (Koyama Press, 2017). To help push them into first place, Czap is the current fellow at CCS (2017–2018).

Futchi Perf is about optimism and community. Perf’s (the title character) idealized future is full of tight and romantic friends, music, and a little bit of urban magic. The book collections a series of short comics set in the same background into a larger, deeper story.

Visiting Artist: Sophia Foster-Dimino

Sophia Foster-Dimino is an Ignatz-winning cartoonist and illustrator living and working in San Francisco, CA. Foster-Dimino has produced illustrations for a variety of outlets and worked as a Google Doodler. She has self-published a number of zines and contributed to several anthologies. Her ongoing series, Sex Fantasy, has received critical acclaim, earning her Ignatz Awards for both Outstanding Series and Outstanding mini-comic, as well as a third for Promising New Talent. Koyama Press released a compilation of Sex Fantasy at the Small Press Expo 2017.
