Alum Spotlight: Rebecca Roher

Rebecca Roher ’15 won the Doug Wright Award in Canada for her comic Bird in a Cage (Conundrum Press, 2016), the touching tale of her grandmother after she had an accident that left her with a brain injury, leading to early onset dementia. Rebecca’s most recent project is Birth Control Tales. She collaborated with Dr. Aparna Sridhar, an OBGYN at UCLA, who wanted to create educational apps to explain birth control options visually.

Dakota McFadzean ′12 wins Doug Wright Award!

The best in Canadian comics and graphic novels were recognized May 14 at the 2016 Doug Wright Awards for Canadian Cartooning in Toronto, including The Center for Cartoon Studies alum Dakota McFadzean for Don’t Get Eaten By Anything, Patrick Kyle, and Michael Deforge.

Congratulations also to alum Rebecca Roher ′15 who was nominated for Mom Body!

The Doug Wright Awards is a feature event of the Toronto Comics Arts Festival (TCAF), the 12th annual Wright Awards were held in downtown Toronto. The evening featured special appearances by R. Sikoryak (Raw, Masterpiece Comics), special guest presenters Seth, Chester Brown, Jeet Heer, Heidi McDonald, Chris Kuzma, Maurice Vellekoop, Nathalie Atkinson, and Betty Liang.

Rebecca Roher ′16 Nominated for Doug Wright Award!

Alum Rebecca Roher was nominated for the 2016 Doug Wright Spotlight Award (a.k.a. “The Nipper”) for Mom Body (The Nib).
