Luke Healy ′14 Draws the Pacific Crest Trail

Luke Healy’s ′14 spent the last half of 2016 walking the Pacific Crest Trail alone. And since then he has been working on his comic about the experience. His third book—Americana (and the Act of Getting Over It)—is coming out from NoBrow in fall 2019.

Growing up in Dublin, this memoir is about growing up obsessed with the US and how walking the PCT was a big life goal. For a brief snippet, Luke has a comic up at The Nib about learning that his paternal grandfather was dying while on the lonely hike.

Alum Spotlight: Tillie Walden’s “On a Sunbeam”

In 2016/2017, Tillie Walden ′16 posted On a Sunbeam as a web comic, which was nominated for an Eisner in 2017. And this fall, it is coming out in print form, through First Second in the US and through Avery Hill Publishing in the UK.  In addition, Tillie will be a special guest at International Comic-Con in San Diego.

Alumni Tillie Walden on comics panel the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books

The Center for Cartoon Studies alum Tillie Walden is at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books on a special graphic novel panel moderated by Tracy Brown (entertainment deputy news editor Los Angeles Times) along with cartoonists Mari Naomi and Pamela Ribon.

Tillie Walden is a two-time Ignatz Award-winning cartoonist from Austin, Texas. She is a recent graduate from the Center for Cartoon Studies, her comics include Spinning, The End of Summer, and I Love This Part, an Eisner Award nominee.

Alum Luke Healy’s new graphic novel, Permanent Press, explores themes of art and existence through worlds of worlds and numbers

NEW RELEASE! Luke Healy’s ′14 new graphic novel, Permanent Press, includes the Ignatz and Slate/CCS Cartoonist Studio Prize nominated story, ‘The Unofficial Cuckoo’s Nest Study Companion.’

Luke is a graduate of The Center for Cartoon Studies where he earned an MFA in Cartooning.

Pre-orders with Avery Hill Publishing come with a signed bookplate. Ships late April.

Alum Luke Healy to debut Permanent Press at the Dublin Comic Arts Festival

 

Luke Healy ’14 (How to Survive in the North, Nobrow, 2016) is debuting his second graphic novel, Permanent Press, through Avery Hill at the Dublin Comic Arts Festival (DCAF) this April. Permanent Press is a graphic novel adaptation and combination of his stories The Unofficial Cuckoo’s Nest Study Companion and The Big and Small. Through it, he explores themes of art and existence through worlds of words and numbers. The Unofficial Cuckoo’s Nest Study Companion was nominated for both and Ignatz and the Slate Cartoonist Studio Prize.
