Little Eden

Excerpt from Chapter One: God’s Square Mile

Little Eden is an in-progress comic that explores the relationship between two adjacent but culturally opposed Jersey shore towns, Asbury Park and Ocean Grove, during the turbulent summer of 1973. Though both were founded in the late 19th century by Methodist religious leaders, Ocean Grove and Asbury Park developed in profoundly divergent ways. Asbury Park became an amusement park destination with a vibrant music scene, while Ocean Grove, “the Queen of Religious Resorts,” became known as a popular Christian camp meeting ground. The story follows Jeanette, a young woman who is sent to Ocean Grove for a religious retreat, but is soon tempted by the neon lights of the “circus town” across the lake.
