White River Junction, Vermont — The Center for Cartoon Studies and Norwich Public Library present Passion, Politics and Panels!: Jeff Danziger in Conversation with Tom Tomorrow. This lively discussion of cartooning and politics is in conjunction with the release of Danziger’s new book from Fantagraphics Books, The Conscience of a Cartoonist, a searing account of America in the aftermath of 9/11.

The event takes place on Thursday, April 17, 7:30pm, at the Norwich Congregational Church, 15 Church Street, Norwich, Vermont, and is free and open to the public.

Danziger is a political cartoonist syndicated by The New York Times worldwide. He was finalist for 1993 The Pulitzer Prize, awarded the 2006 Herblock Prize, the 2008 Thomas Nast Prize, and is a decorated Vietnam veteran. He has produced ten books of cartoons, a children’s book, The Champlain Monster, and a novel about the Vietnam war. Danziger was born in New York City.  His 40-year cartooning career has included working with the New York Daily News, The Rutland Herald, and Christian Science Monitor.

Tom Tomorrow (a.k.a. Dan Perkins) is the creator of the weekly political cartoon, This Modern World, which appears in approximately 80 newspapers across the U.S., and on websites such as Daily Kos, Truthout and Credo. He received the first place Robert F. Kennedy Award for Excellence in Journalism in 1998 and in 2003.

The Conscience of a Cartoonist is Jeff Danziger’s tour of instruction and exemplification of the political cartooning art, based on the years following the 9/11 attacks in New York City. The tragedy that day, and the politically disorganized response that followed, are documented by Danziger in his “smart, witty (often hilarious) comic nightmares,” as Jules Feiffer has described them. Danziger cartoons and commentary make a case of how satire and its graphic equivalent, cartooning, can be both a scold and a guide in years of continuing crisis. This coffee-table book is also his exegesis on the art of editorial cartooning. Click here to order a copy online today!

The event is sponsored by Martin and Jill Butler, Peggy and Lou Kannenstine, Chris Lloyd and Vassie Sinopoulos, Bill Stetson, Carpenter and Main, Fantagraphic Books, Sterling Hill Productions, and Friends of The Center for Cartoon Studies.
