Composition Competition

For the fifth consecutive year, Frank Santoro has held the Comic Workbook Composition Competition. He defines the layouts for each page and then a bunch of cartoonists go nuts making comics using the layouts. Then he sorts though them and winners get prizes. This year, two alums of The Center for Cartoon Studies participated: Iris Yan ′13 and Simon Reinhardt ′14.

Visiting Artist: Frank Santoro

Frank Santoro is well known for his visionary colors and evocative sense of place. In the early 1990’s, he dropped out of art school to pursue comic book making, and first became known in 1995 for Storeyville, which was re-released in 2007 by Picturebox. He has also collaborated with Ben Jones on the comic series Cold Heat and released his solo project Pompei.  He is also known for is ongoing comics correspondence course.
