Visiting Artist: Sam Alden and Sophie Yanow

Sophie Yanow is The Center for Cartoon Studies 2014-15 Fellow. She was born north of San Francisco. In 2011 she moved to Montreal, and with Colosse collective published In Situ, her acclaimed autobiographical comics series. She was an invited artist-researcher for the Canadian Center for Architecture’s “C for Condo” workshop, and participated in projects such as the the 48 Heures de la Bande Dessinée, the strike related online Manif de Bonhommes, and La Hausse en Question strike zine. Her work has been exhibited throughout the US and Canada.  sophieyanow.com

Sam Alden won the Ignatz Award for most promising new talent. His work has been featured in Best American Comics 2013, from Houghton-Mifflin. His collection, It Never Happened Again, will publish with Uncivilized Books late spring. Sam now lives and works as an illustrator and cartoonist in Montréal.
