Announcing the Ninth Annual Cartoonist Studio Prize

The Center for Cartoon Studies and The Beat will name the best print and web comic of the year

White River Junction, Vermont, January 19, 2021 – The Center for Cartoon Studies is thrilled to announce that the Cartoonist Studio Prize is back for its 9th year running! The pandemic may have presented each of us with unimaginable challenges, but it can’t keep us from honoring the best comics of 2020. This year we are teaming up with The Beat to award The Cartoonist Studio Prize to the year’s most exceptional graphic novel and webcomic. The winning creators in both categories- print and webcomics – will each receive $1000 and a Wacom One Creative Pen Display.

This year’s judges include Avery Kaplan from The Beat, Natalie Wardlaw and Reilly Hadden from the Schulz Library at The Center for Cartoon Studies, and this year’s guest judge, renowned Argentine cartoonist, Liniers. Liniers is the creator of the daily comic strip, Macanudo, which has been running for 16 years. His other books include, Written and Drawn by Henrietta (2015), The Big Wet Balloon (2013), and the Eisner Award-winning, Good Night, Planet (2017).

The deadline for submissions is February 15th. All comics published in English between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020 are eligible. Submission forms can be found here for print comics, and here for webcomics.

Creators or publishers may submit a work for consideration by sending a physical copy of the book, along with a submission form, to:
