International Students

Thank you for your interest in our programs!

International alumni have come from across the globe to attend CCS: Ireland, Canada, Indonesia, Australia, Germany, Jamaica, Trinidad, Argentina, India, Malaysia, etc..

Currently The Center for Cartoon Studies (CCS) is able to sponsor M-1 visas for its MFA program.  Click here to read the M-1 visa guide which includes information about every step in the international student process, from researching a program to graduating and departing the United States. However, we recognize it’s a lot to navigate and are here to help. You can email us at admissions@cartoonstudies.org to speak with our Designated School Official for the Student Exchange Visitor Program.

As part of the M-1 visa application with US Customs and Immigration, you are required to:

  • Provide financial evidence of liquid assets that can cover tuition and living expenses for the duration of your studies in full. Our MFA program is two years in length. CCS does not have international student-specific scholarships/grants. We do, however, have a merit scholarship that is offered to incoming students.
  • CCS has no firm deadline for admissions; however, we strongly encourage you to submit your application to CCS before June 1 for the incoming fall class. While international students can be accepted later, you need to account for visa processing times to ensure you can arrive on campus in time for new student orientation.
  • An admissions interview is part of the application process. English proficiency is evaluated through this means and as such we do not require a TOEFL score.
  • To be eligible for the program, MFA candidates must be at least 18 years of age and have obtained a bachelor’s degree, a baccalaureate program of studies usually requiring at least 4 years (or equivalent) of full-time college-level study. There is no required experience – we are looking at potential as well as talent.

CCS offers summer workshops that are a week in length that do not require a student visa. Check with your local government/embassy to determine if your home country is part of the visa waiver program, or if you will need a visitor visa, and for all other required visa information.

If timing and funding are a barrier, you can start with our free online workout.
