Visiting Artist: Vera Brosgol

Be Prepared by Vera Brosgol
Vera Brosgol was born in Moscow, Russia, and moved to the US when she was five. She has storyboarded for Laika on the feature films Coraline, Paranorman, The Boxtrolls, and Kubo and the Two Strings.

Vera now writes and illustrates books full-time. Her first graphic novel, Anya’s Ghost, was published in 2011 by First Second Books and won an Eisner Award. Her first picture book, Leave Me Alone, was published in 2016 by Roaring Brook Press and won a Caldecott Honor. Her latest graphic novel Be Prepared came out in April, 2018, and her newest picture book, The Little Guys, will be released by Roaring Brook Press in April, 2019.

CCS Book Proposal Contest Winner Is Josh Rosen!

The winning project for the The Center for Cartoon Studies Book Proposal Contest goes to alum Josh Rosen! The contest was open to alum of The Center for Cartoon Studies. Josh’s graphic novel proposal, The Secret Adventures of Felix Pinn, will be represented to trade book publishers by Judith Hansen, a literary agent who represents such cartoonists as Scott McCloud, R. Crumb, Raina Telgemeier, Gene Luen Yang, Kazu Kibuishi, Ben Hatke, Vera Brosgol and Bryan Lee O’Malley. Josh is also awarded $1000! The winner was selected by Barnes & Noble’s Jim Killen and Judith Hansen. Congratulations Josh!
