Event date: –

Tara Wray is a photographer, curator, and filmmaker based in rural Vermont. Her work is autobiographical in nature and focuses on issues of mental health and the ambivalence of family ties. She makes art to understand the world around her and to define her place within it. Her photobook, Too Tired for Sunshine, was published by Yoffy Press in July 2018 and quickly sold out. Her work has appeared in museums and galleries worldwide and is held in the permanent collections of several institutions including Yale University, Dartmouth College, the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, and the George Eastman Museum Library.

Recently she founded the Too Tired Project, a non-profit photo initiative helping those struggling with depression by offering a platform for collective creative expression. Her photography has been featured on Vice, NPR, The Washington Post, Huff Post, Polish Vogue, and elsewhere. Born and raised in Kansas, Wray graduated from NYU where she studied documentary filmmaking. She is director of two feature length documentaries: Manhattan, Kansas (SXSW 2006) and Cartoon College (Vancouver International Film Festival 2012).
