Melissa Mendes ′10 Comic Strip in the Chicago Reader

January 22, 2019

The first comic for "Violet, Private Eye" by Melissa Mendes

Melissa Mendes ′10 is making more comics with Violet, Private Eye, a weekly comic strip for the Chicago Reader. It’s about a crime-fighting kid, who you can read about in print and online. Now is the time to get in on this comic as it just started on January 15. Cats, kids, and cops? Sounds like fun.

The Chicago Reader is Chicago’s largest free weekly newspaper and is nationally recognized as a leader in the alternative press. They provide in-depth coverage of Chicago politics and culture. The Chicago Reader also has comics by John Porcellino, Prairie Pothole; and Mike Centeno, Tech.

Melissa is still hard at work on The Weight, her long-form comic about a family saga starting in the 1930s. The story is posted online through Part Nine. She also has a Patreon campaign going for The Weight.
