Lively Lettering!
By Laura Di Piazza
Saturday, March 4
10am-2pm
at The Center for Cartoon Studies
In this one-day energetic and fun-filled calligraphy and lettering workshop we will explore contemporary letterforms with ruling pens, broad-edge and pointed pen nibs. During the first portion of the workshop, we’ll focus on creating irregular, raw and splatter-filled letters that can be reminiscent of Ralph Steadman’s lettering, with our ruling pens, handmade in Italy by Master Scribe Massimo Polello. During the second portion of the workshop we’ll experiment with varying pressure on pointed pen nibs to create Romanesque majuscules and practice our regular cursive hand using this new tool along with sumi ink. Students are encouraged to bring in copy/quotes or titles of projects.
