What can baseball teach us about cartooning?
Line Drives & Motion Lines: A Century of Baseball Comics brings together work by generations of cartoonists who turned the ballpark into a laboratory for drawing, storytelling, and observation. From newspaper sports cartoons and comic strips to magazine illustrations and graphic novels, the exhibition explores how artists have captured bodies in motion, distilled personality, and transformed the rhythms of a game into pictures.
Featuring work by Bill Gallo, Ray Gotto, Ellen Lindner, Lincoln Peirce, Richard Thompson, Barney Tobey, Rich Tommaso, Gluyas Williams, Denys Wortman, Leo O’Mealia, and more.
Although every work in the exhibition features baseball, Line Drives & Motion Lines is ultimately about cartooning at its best, by some of its greatest practitioners.
