WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, VERMONT–The Center for Cartoon Studies (CCS) will hold its 20th commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at 12noon, at the Barrette Center for the Arts at Northern Stage. This year’s commencement speaker is renowned cartoonist and comics theorist Scott McCloud.
Scott McCloud is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Understanding Comics: The Invisible Art; Making Comics: Storytelling Secrets of Comics, Manga, and Graphic Novels; Zot!; and The Sculptor. He is also the co-creator, with Raina Telgemeier, of The Cartoonists Club. Scott is a frequent lecturer on the power of visual communication and creator of the international 24-Hour Comics Day. In 2021, he was inducted into the Will Eisner Awards Hall of Fame.

The Center for Cartoon Studies’ ceremony will be held in Northern Stage’s The Barrette Center for the Arts. Please join us for the opening ceremony of the Thesis Exhibition from 1-3 pm, immediately following commencement. The CCS Gallery is located in the Colodny Building, at 94 South Main Street, downtown White River Junction. This reception is free and open to the public.
Thesis Exhibition
A thesis exhibit featuring original work by the graduating class, with public gallery hours during the month of May, from noon-4pm Monday through Friday, at the CCS Gallery in the Colodny Building at 94 South Main Street.
