These merit-based scholarships are to support the professional development for cartoonists living in the United States of America. Applicants of historically marginalized communities are strongly encouraged to apply. A committee will meet to distribute a number of full tuition workshop scholarships for applicants whose work is of exceptional merit. Recipients will also receive a $300 stipend to help offset travel and lodging costs.
Our workshops are for both beginners and advanced artists and cover topics from tools and techniques to writing and drawing for both comics and graphic novels. To be considered for this scholarship, prospective workshop participants should apply using the form linked below. The application includes a short written statement on how a CCS workshop would aid your development as a visual storyteller, and one or two pieces of your work (sketches, self- or traditionally-published work, website, social media account, etc).
The application deadline is Thursday, March 26, 2026
A committee of CCS faculty and staff will review and make the selections, within a few weeks of the deadline. Those selected will be notified then. We will also send out a notice to applicants who were not selected.
If you are selected for the scholarship and have already registered for that workshop, we will refund you! Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions info@cartoonstudies.org
NEEDS-BASED SCHOLARSHIPS
Needs-based scholarships are available to help cover the cost of the workshop tuition through The Center for Cartoon Studies.
There are currently two needs-based scholarships:
One is a general scholarship (up to 40%), which is dependent on annual household income. This is on a first-come-first-served basis; funds are allocated per class.
Second is an Upper Valley–specific scholarship for those located in the vicinity of the school.
In either case, to apply you just need to email the amount of your adjusted gross income for the previous year (i.e the amount listed on your 2024 tax return for the 2025 winter workshops) to Dave Lloyd, lloyd@cartoonstudies.org. Copies of tax returns are not necessary.
Vermont Residents (18+)
Vermont residents who are 18 years old and up can apply for the Short-Term Training: Advancement Grant through the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation. This grant can cover the full cost of a CCS Summer or Winter Workshop.
CCS workshops do sell out. If you apply for a Advancement Grant, please forward your confirmation email from VSAC to registration@cartoonstudies.org CCS can then provide a discounted registration link where you can make a refundable $50 deposit to hold your spot for 14 days while your grant application is processed by VSAC.
CCS Students and Alumni Discounts
