Lauren Weinstein is a cartoonist and artist whose work has appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times, Bookforum, Nautilus, and The Guardian, among many other outlets. Her acclaimed comic Normel Person was the last weekly comic strip to run in The Village Voice. This year, Weinstein’s Being an Artist and a Mother won a Slate Cartoonist Studio Prize, and was published in Best American Comics 2019. Her most recent novella, Mother’s Walk, was selected for the latest issue of Frontier. Weinstein is also the author of three books: Inside Vineyland (Alternative Comics, 2003), the teenage memoir Girl Stories (Henry Holt and Co., 2006), and Goddess of War (Picturebox, 2008). She has received two Ignatz Awards among other nominations. In 2015, Weinstein was awarded the Gold Medal from The Society of Illustrators for Carriers, her five-part webcomic about cystic fibrosis that was first published in Nautilus. Weinstein earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Washington University in St. Louis.
Noelle Stevenson is the New York Times bestselling author of Nimona, has been nominated for Harvey and Eisner Awards, and was awarded the Slate Cartoonist Studio Prize for Best Web Comic in 2012 for Nimona. Noelle is a writer on Disney’s Wander Over Yonder, the co-writer of Boom! Studios’ Lumberjanes, and has written for Marvel and DC Comics. She currently lives in Los Angeles. Nimona is currently on the list for a National Book Award!

Adventures in Cartooning, meet Adventures in Parenting: The New York Times parenting blog Motherlode gives our Holiday Challenge a shout-out! In their latest book, Adventures in Cartooning, Christmas Special, The Center for Cartoon Studies (CCS) director James Sturm and alumni Andrew Arnold and Alexis Frederick-Frost asked kids to send a comic to Santa. Denys Wortman exhibit featured in The New York Times
Denys Wortman Rediscovered: Drawings from the World-Telegram and Sun, curated by The Museum of the City of New York with the assistance of CCS co-founder James Sturm and CCS alum Brandon Elston, is on display from November 19 – March 20.
