James Sturm Wins Eisner Comic Industry Award

White River Junction, Vermont- The Center for Cartoon Studies is pleased to announce James Sturm, director of CCS, is the recipient of the 2004 Eisner award, "Best Limited Series" for Unstable Molecules, by James Sturm and Guy Davis (Marvel). The Eisner is like the Oscar for cartoonists.

The Eisner Awards are presented under the auspices of Comic-Con International, San Diego, a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to creating awareness of and appreciation for comics and related popular art forms primarily through the presentation of conventions and events that celebrate the historic and ongoing contributions of comics to art and culture. Five judges, one administrator and over 1500 nominated entries are brought together for one weekend in San Diego to produce a ballot representing the best of the comic book industry in 2003. This year the event took place on July 24, 2004.

In the fall of 2005, 20 students from all over the country will come to White River Junction, Vermont to be the first class of The Center for Cartoon Studies (CCS). These students will engage in an intensive two-year full-time course of study organized around the creation of comics and graphic novels.
The New England Council Creative Economy Initiative calls for supporting and fostering a creative workforce: "the thinkers and doers, trained in specific cultural and artistic skills." CCS students will be future members of this creative workforce by acquiring a solid foundation in desktop publishing, drawing, graphic design, and writing.

At CCS they will learn to connect their creativity with marketable skills.
