VERMONT CARTOONING COLLEGE TO HONOR ITS OWN The New Yorker cartoonist, Ed Koren Exhibition preview and private reception: Thursday, November 3, 2005, 7-9 p.m.

The Center for Cartoon Studies will honor Vermont's most accomplished cartoonist, Ed Koren, by mounting an exhibit entitled "Ed Koren: A Big Hairy Celebration."A Brookfield native, Koren has drawn over 900 comics (whose characters, both human and animal, sport notable shocks of hair) and several dozen covers for The New Yorker, the magazine he is most closely associated with. Koren's prolific output also includes etchings, children's books, and magazine and book illustration.

A Private Reception, Gala and Preview will be held Thursday, November 3, 2005, 7-9 p.m. at The Center for Cartoon Studies, 94 South Main Street, White River Junction. Koren will be on hand to discuss his work in a slide show discussion with CCS director James Sturm. The Show will be on exhibit Saturdays from November 12-December 10, noon-5 p.m.

November third's gala will also serve as the cartoon college's fall fundraiser. Tickets are $50 each and are available through the school web site (cartoonstudies.org) or call (802) 295-3319 for more information. Dessert will be served which will include a special cake designed by Ed Koren.

White River Junction publisher Chelsea Green, a sponsor for the Gala has made available rare Koren illustrated book, The Hard Work of Simple Living. Inscribed copies will be available for purchase. A silent auction, which will include an original, limited-edition Koren etching, will also be held.

"Ed's distinctive characters, looking like Muppets on Rogaine, are recognized throught the world for their wry humor and wisdom. His love of drawing is evident in every mark he places on paper. It's the school's good fortune to have a cartoonist of Koren's stature so close by who is willing to help support our efforts," says James Sturm.

The exhibit will include photos of the artist's studio, a quilt of Koren t-shirt designs, original The New Yorker Cartoons, and three decades of Koren-illustrated posters and more.
