THE 24-HOUR COMICS CHALLENGE &
COMICS SCHOLAR SCOTT MCCLOUD
LECTURE AND BOOK SIGNING

TWO UPCOMING EVENTS:
24-Hour Comic Day: Saturday, October 7
Scott McCloud, lecture and book signing: Thursday, October 19, 4:15pm

White River Junction, Vermont — The Center for Cartoon Studies (CCS) announces two exciting events for October: 24-hour Comics Day Challenge and a lecture and book signing by comics' guru Scott McCloud. McCloud is the author of Understanding Comics, Reinventing Comics and just released Making Comics, in which he is currently on a 50 state promotional tour.

On October 7th CCS will hosting the marathon for cartooning! The 24-hour comics challenge was created in 1990 by Scott as a way to creatively jump start his friend (and current CCS faculty member) Steve Bissette. Cartoonists all over the world take the challenge of trying to create a 24 page comic story in 24 straight hours. The challenge begins at 9am sharp and concludes the following morning at 9am. CCS is one of 81 other locations in 13 countries taking part in the 24-hour Comics Day Challenge.

The Center for Cartoon Studies is also co-sponsoring a lecture and book signing by Scott McCloud at Dartmouth College on Thursday, October 19, at 4:15pm, in room Rockefeller, Room 2. McCloud's book Understanding Comics was a New York Times Notable book for 1994, and is available in 15 languages. McCloud lectured on comics and digital media at Harvard University, MIT, Pixar, Microsoft and The Smithsonian Institution. His upcoming book, Making Comics, is based on his popular 5-Day Seminar "Comics: Theory and Practice." McCloud's trip to the Upper Valley is based on a 3-day visit to The Center for Cartoon Studies.

The Center for Cartoon Studies (CCS), located in the historic village of White River Junction, Vermont, is a dynamic cartooning school and studio that has been featured in The New York Times, The Boston Globe, The Farmer's Almanac, and on the front page of The Washington Post.
