GOVERNOR DOUGLAS VISITS THE CENTER FOR CARTOON STUDIES
September 26, 2005
White River Junction, Vermont - Today students of The Center for Cartoon Studies had a special visit by Vermont Governor Jim Douglas. The Governor attended a Drawing Workshop class taught by faculty James Kochalka. During the visit Kochalka presented to the Governor a portrait caricature he made for the special occasion. There was some discussion as to how the illustration could be interpreted. The Governor laughed along with the class and enjoyed his visit. The illustration (see below) has bird like features representing Governor Douglas as a watchful owl. Kochalka explained why he choose to create the illustration and that he based it off photographs of the Governor. He also pointed out the critical detail of the beautiful hairline.

James Kochalka's comics have been published internationally by almost every alternative comics publisher; he's recorded several music CDs under the name James Kochalka Superstar (making him a favorite at college radio stations across the country); and he's developed animated cartoons for Nickelodeon. Best known for his graphic novel, Monkey vs Robot, and his critically acclaimed Sketchbook Diaries, Kochalka currently lives in Burlington, Vermont.
