Visiting Artist: Xia Gordon

Xia Gordon is a freelance illustrator and comic artist based in Brooklyn. She grew up between Orlando, FL, and NYC, and graduated from the School of Visual Arts with a BFA in cartooning and illustration. She studies as a teaching assistant intern at the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop in 2016. Her comic Kindling was published by 2dcloud in early 2017 and was named on of The Comic Journal’s Best Comics of 2017. She is currently working on A Song for Gwendolyn Brooks, written by Alice Faye Duncan, set to release January 2019 (Sterling). Past clients include The New York Times, Penguin Random House (Classics), Vice News, Buzzfeed NewsLenny Letter and Narratively.

Visiting Artist: Marshall Arisman

The paintings and drawings of Marshall Arisman have been widely exhibited, both internationally and nationally. His work may be seen in the permanent collections of the Brooklyn Museum, at the National Museum of American Art and the Smithsonian Institution, as well as in many private and corporate collections.  Arisman’s original graphic essay, “Heaven Departed,” in which paintings and drawings describe the emotional and spiritual impact of nuclear war on society, was published in book form by Vision Publishers (Tokyo, 1988).
