Katherine Roy ′10 is exploring space with her newest children’s book

Katherine Roy ′10 has dived the depths with Neighborhood Sharks and explored the savannah with How to Be an Elephant. Now she is exploring space with her newest children’s book, Red Rover. Written by Richard Ho, the new book is coming from Roaring Brook Press in October 2019. Katherine uses her skills in watercolor to bring life to the red planet, exploring Mars with the Curiosity rover.

Pulp Culture Comic Arts Fest and Symposium

The Pulp Culture Comic Arts Festival and Symposium is coming up at the end of October. CCS faculty Jason Lutes (Berlin, Drawn and Quarterly, 2018) presented the pre-conference keynote address on September 27. And another CCS faculty, Stephen R. Bissette, provided the excellent Sasquatch illustration for their poster.

Alum Katherine Roy on tour

How to be an Elephant by Katherine Roy

Katherine Roy’s (’10) latest book How to Be an Elephant is out and she is on tour. Traipsing through California in October, she is headed to Arizona and Oregon for November. Looks like she likes warm weather!

In Phoenix, Arizona, she has a couple events. She is signing at 2017 American Association of School Librarians (November 9–11) and on November 11, she is speaking on the “Connecting to STEM: Science Books for Kids” panel from 2–3.

CCS Industry Day

Industry Day is an annual event that introduces CCS students to top industry professionals including publishers, editors, designers and critics.  Students attend a panel discussion followed by one-on-one reviews with the pros. This year’s line up includes: Andrew Arnold is a book designer for the children’s book company Roaring Brook Press. Holly Bemiss is an agent at the Susan Rabiner Literary Agency. Peggy Burns is the Associate Publisher of the world renowned, Montreal-based graphic novel and comics arts company Drawn & Quarterly. Dan Kois is the senior editor at the Slate Book Review. Tucker Stone is a comic critic and blogger, most notably for The Comics Journal and the US Sales and Marketing Director for Nobrow.
